Roots, not letters
Tap the pieces a word is made of
Every word is built from older pieces. You get a clue, a tray of roots and five guesses to tap the right ones into place, in order. Every root you try shows what it means, so even a wrong guess teaches you something.
- Green is right, amber is close, and grey is not in the word

A garden, not a score
Every root you meet becomes a leaf
Solve a word and its roots join your garden. Leaves get thirsty on a spacing schedule, and watering one is a four-second question: spaced repetition without the flashcard deck.

Read the clue, then tap the roots it is made of, in order. You have five guesses, and every root you try shows its meaning.

Solve it and you get the story of the word, and the other words built from the same pieces.

Come back and answer a four-second question for each thirsty leaf. The roots stay, and the tree grows.

When can I get it?
WordPith is coming soon to Google Play, for Android phones and tablets. This page will link to the store on launch day.
Is it free?
Yes. The daily word is always free, along with Core Roots and the Academic Word List. WordPith+ and the other packs are optional extras.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No account, and it works offline. Your garden, streak and settings stay on your device, which also means deleting the app deletes them. Buying or restoring a purchase needs a connection.
Are there ads?
No. WordPith shows no ads, and we don’t sell your data.
What happens if I miss a day?
A shield covers a missed day, one a week, so a single slip never costs you the streak. Watering can also mend a gap from the last two days.
What is a seed?
A seed reveals one root in its slot when you are stuck, and the share grid shows it was used. You start with three, WordPith+ adds ten a month, and you can get ten more in the store.
Which exams does it cover?
SAT, ACT and PSAT; GRE and GMAT; TOEFL and IELTS; MCAT, NCLEX and UCAT; CAT, Bank PO, SSC and UPSC English; and Law & Legal Latin. Pick an exam, a date and the minutes a day you have, and WordPith works out how many new words to learn each day.
Where do the word origins come from?
They are checked against Wiktionary and the Online Etymology Dictionary.
Can I read about the roots without the app?
Yes. wordpith.leafyorb.com explains the Latin and Greek roots, with the words each one builds and word lists for the GRE, SAT, MCAT, TOEFL and more.

WordPith keeps your results, your garden and your settings on your device and works without an account. It sends no analytics and no crash reports. The only thing that leaves the device is a purchase: Apple or Google take the payment and RevenueCat confirms it, against an anonymous identifier. We don’t sell your data or show ads.
